It is a nice machine for doing limited works. I purchased this because my TV has a hdmi input, no vga input, while my computer/ipad does not have hdmi video out. It is nice to watch youtube on TV, even the resolution is not too good, and you cannot zoom the screen to full size. You can watch video on TV, and not anything else, like pdf files, e-books.

You need to purchase a micro sd card to use it. Some micro sd card will not work with it. It is not working for Nokia micro sd card, but working for Sandisk micro sd card.

You cannot upgrade the OS system. That is ok for me. Android 2.2 is good for a while.

As a pdf ebook reader, Sometime, it is slow for turn one page for some pdf files, up to 2 to 3 seconds waits. It works well for some pdf files.

Web browsing are ok with Opera mini. The one come with the system is kind of slow. It opens pictures on web pages slowly.

It seems that the software in 'Market" are limited compare to ipad.

The USB port can read SD card with SD card reader, but cannot read a regular external usb hard disk. Too Bad. But with micro sd card and drop box, I don't need that function.

I never try the keyboard. The screen keyboard is stiff compare to ipad. It is workable, just not that good. I tried handwriting input for chinese characters, not working well for me. Not as easy as iPad.

Over all, if all you need is just web browsing, watch video files or web's video on hdmi TV, and read ebooks sometime, this is a good choice.

VIZIO makes a Tablet? : VIZIO 8-Inch Tablet with WiFi - VTAB1008

I just got one of these, at Costco, as a gift for my sister. Initially I was skeptical about the build quality, as the device is really cheap ($289 at Costco currently). I read some positive reviews online and saw one being used by a colleague of mine and I was sold. To begin with, let me clarify, this is no Ipad 2 (Even though it is lighter than one). But for the price point, this is a great investment. For me a pad is supposed to be my internet access device and a video playback device on the go. This pad does both excellently. While playing HD video's there were some 'blocking' effects, but nothing that will bother you. The video's otherwise played flawlessly. I was able to view flash content as well without any issues. My sister has already tried multiple applications from android market and they have worked fine till now. One of the best feature about this is it's IR blaster, which I found very useful and she has managed to use the vizio tablet for her TV, DVD player, e.t.c (I dont remember all the devices she managed, but she was quite happy with it).

To summarize the positives
1) Great build quality
2) Plays Flash content
3) IR Blaster
4) Stereo sound in any orientation (It has three speakers)
5) Battery life (I was able to use it for approximately 8 hrs)

In terms of negatives,
1) There is no 3-G support. I cannot connect to internet when there is no Wi-Fi.
2) Takes a little while to charge. But i will say it is manageable.
3) Uses android Gingerbread. Which is a little older release. (Although i read online that they will be releasing Honeycomb, the latest android version, later).

Final thoughts:
This device is really usable and, for the price, i think this is a great buy. I intend to use this as a gift as well.

Super Innovative, Best tablet yet! : Toshiba Thrive 10.1-Inch 8 GB Android Tablet AT105-T108

I purchased two 16gb tablets from a local retailer yesterday. First let me say this tablet is not perfect but I am am very pleased. It is like having a large smart phone. I love my smart phone! My husband was able to get most of his apps installed, but some of mine are not available for the tablet yet. I am able to use my cloud service and access several of my paid apps (spreadsheets, word docs, etc). The widgets & apps that are missing from the market are not an issue because I can access these items online (banking, personal finance site). I am optimistic that the android community will remedy this eventually. I am a techie and I love it.

The interface is flawless & smooth, saved photos look really good (even when zoomed in), wireless connection excellent (no connection issues). So far my battery life has been 6hrs; but let me say I did not turn off wireless or Bluetooth. My screen brightness was on maximum. I played Need for Speed briefly, surfed the web alot (3-4 hours), downloaded apps and files, looked at several youtube videos. I think the speaker quality is good; picture quality OK; used tango and talked to hubby while he was at work.

Remember this tablet is thicker than the Ipad 2, Samsung, etc; some may experience fatigue from holding it long periods of time. I typed this entire review on the keyboard. I like it and unless something really bad happens in the next 13 days I plan to keep it.

07/19/11 UPDATED REVIEW -- Well I decide to update my review. (I was able to purchase the tablets early at Fry's on 07/05/11) I had the sleep issue and called Toshiba the first time on 07/07/11. While they were nice there was no resolution given. So I exchanged by tablet at Fry's on 07/08/11. Then my husband's tablet had the issue. I decided to be patient and started surfing the internet to see if anyone else was having the problem. Slowly, I saw more postings about this problem. My new tablet was starting to have a sleep issue too and rebooting by itself. I called Toshiba again on 07/13/11 and the rep told me that he had never heard of that problem before. By 07/15/11 it was on Toshiba's thrive forums and the internet extensively. I even looked to see if it was an Android issue that plagued other tablets. My 14 days to return the tablets for a refund were quickly approaching and I was hoping that Toshiba sent an update or that some of the fixes would work. While I realize any technology can have hiccups I felt that I needed to decide what to do. I did not want to be stuck with a problematic tablet. I returned both tablets last weekend.

I been checking the internet and I am glad to see that Toshiba finally realizes they need to fix this issue. I am surprise that it never showed up in testing. I hope it is a software issue and not a hardware issue because I am sure some of you have met your return time limits. I still think the tablet has some really nice features and I hope they work them out. I decided to buy the Xoom- no surprises.

I bought this because I refuse to shell out $500 for an ipad. I didn't even want to pay $400 for the first version of the ipad when they lowered the price of it right after the ipad2 became available.

I feel as if I have gotten away with a crime. I didn't know how capable the Superpad would be. I opinion I would use it just for emails and internet browsing but I ended up being sucked into the Superpad vortex and have been spending hours on it and fooling with it probably a puny more than I should. It even allows me to do a lot of things I couldn't on my iphone such as continue to play music apps like Pandora while searching the web. The Android marketplace is phenomenal (for me) as I have been able to download a lot of beneficial apps and games as well. I have downloaded Angry Birds, Word Finders, connect Four, etc. I have also downloaded an app that streams Tv shows and videos. It works perfectly. There is also an embedded app in the Superpad that allows you to watch movies too. That highlight is for a Chinese audience but it offers a lot of Us and European movies that play in English. Android Marketplace didn't have a Hulu app and I haven't found a way to use Netflix yet but I can watch Youtube with no qoute and you can upload your own videos using your Sd card or flashstick.

When I took it to work I only wanted to show it to one man but before I knew it we had 6 citizen standing around us asking questions. I also had citizen walk by my office when I had it out and they always doubled back and asked me about it. It is truly a conversation starter and I had nothing bad to report because I have had it for approximately a week and it hasn't had any glitches.

It was easy for me to set up Wifi (in less than a minute) and the Superpad is actually intuitive so I have not had to play around with it long in order to figure something out. All things I use regularly on my iphone I have been able to load onto my Superpad or find its equivalent. Additionally, each time I use it I learn about a cool new feature. citizen may complain about it not being an iPad but it's close and it costs 300 freaking dollars less. Not to mention when you buy an item like this you are going to need accessories so by buying this version I don't feel buyer's remorse because I also have to buy accessories. I have bought (cheaply) a cover with a keyboard ($30) , a mini Hdmi to Hdmi cord ($5 on Amazon) and will purchase 2-16 Gb mini Sd cards in a day or so. The touch screen is fine and even though there is no multi-touch I don't find that to be an issue.

Ultimately I would say, if you have never used an ipad you would not know what you were missing by purchasing the Superpad and you would think that you had in your hands one of the coolest pieces of technologies on earth. I too was a puny afraid after reading that some of the Amazon reviewers had received a faulty Superpad. Then I had a thought, I went to the ipad reviews and read the one and two star reviews. They also complained about receiving a faulty machine. But just because a man received a faulty ipad, it doesn't mean that ipads aren't any good. The man needs to have it replaced. I also bought it straight through Amazon Fulfillment so I wasn't worried. If it hadn't worked I would have sent it back.

I am probably going to order another one for my wife in a few days. I want her to palpate what I am feeling.

** Will have to play around with it if you have never used Android before
**It is not an ipad - so if you try to fit a circle into a square, you will always be disappointed - when you find out what it can do then you will be pleasantly surprised
